Facing panels made of coniferous wood are called clapboard. The modern woodworking industry produces several types of profiled boards. Lining "Calm" - one of the most popular sheathing materials. They finish the internal surfaces (walls, ceilings) of the premises and facades of houses.
The difference between the "Calm" profile from the euro lining
VS is often confused with the euro-board. Between these types of lumber there is a significant difference in the constructive type of connection between the boards.
Both types of lining are connected by the thorn-groove method. Eurolining has wider lateral protrusions (spikes), creating a raised surface with deepened longitudinal depressions. VS, on the contrary, forms tight joints with barely noticeable grooves, which creates the impression of a single plane.
Production
Lumber is made by processing unedged or edged boards, depending on the woodworking equipment. Six-spindle machines process boards from four sides, forming a facade surface, radial longitudinal chamfers with grooves, protrusions.
On the back of the profile, two longitudinal ventilation ducts are cut with milling heads. On them there is a ventilation of the space between the cladding, the fence. This prevents moisture from accumulating.
Four-, two-spindle equipment: spikes and grooves are cut in pre-planed wood. This operation can be performed by masters on a milling cutter adapted for this purpose.
Application
Sheathing of walls and ceilings with profiled boards is done in the interior of residential premises, attics, baths, loggias. Wooden panels are cladding the facades of buildings and structures. If the walls are of brick, blocks or concrete, then install a crate of timber. It serves as the basis for profile fasteners.
Classification
Lumber is produced in several grades. The grade is determined by the quality of processing the front surface of the panels, the structure of the wood, the species of wood, the correct geometry of the profile.
Lining "Calm" is made of the following grades:
- Extra;
- Prima;
- AND;
- AB, Sun.
Extra
This class is assigned to defect-free panels. The VSh of the Extra class does not have cracks, chips, curvatures and rotten knots. The profile is made by splicing from several boards. Due to this, the front surface of the lining is smooth. Higher grade VS considered elite, which is reflected in its high price. The products are delivered to the distribution network in vacuum packaging.
Prima
Lining "Prima" is made of larch. Lumber is used for cladding facades. Boards are strong, well tolerate sudden changes in temperature. The facade, lined with "Prima", creates an imitation of wall decoration with a profiled beam. Larch panels cover the inside of a living room..
AND
Lining of a class "A" is production of the 1st grade. Different manufacturers of VS 1 grade are in no way inferior in quality characteristics to “Extra” class panels. The technical conditions of production allow subtle cracks with a length of not more than 90 mm, light knots ø not more than 15 mm.
AB, Sun
Lining of the classes "AB", "BC" with reduced requirements for the quality of the material is rejected boards of the highest grades or products made of low-quality wood. Usually, lumber is used for wall cladding, floors in utility rooms.
Wood species for lining
Profiled boards are made of coniferous wood - pine, spruce, larch. Of deciduous trees, linden is used to produce panels.
Products from pine and spruce are taken for lining inside the rooms. For facades, these panels are not suitable due to the low level of resistance to weathering.
Lining from larch withstands heat from the sun and severe frosts, a sharp change in the level of humidity in the external environment. Wood is not subject to decay, fungal and mold formations.
Larch is used not only for facing facades of houses. The indoor surfaces look beautiful from it. Lining from this wood species adorns the interiors of halls, bedrooms, dining rooms and children's rooms.
Linden has high moisture resistance. VS linden wood is suitable for baths and saunas. Indoors, the light cladding of walls and ceilings serves for many years without losing its original appearance.
Decorative coating
To obtain an attractive appearance of the lined surface, the lining is treated in various ways. For this, different means are used:
- stain;
Boards are impregnated with stain. The liquid is used as an antiseptic. Treated surfaces take on a sophisticated look with an accentuated wood structure.
- furniture varnish;
Lacquer open the panel after stain. The tool gives the luster gloss, creates a protective layer.
- tinting;
Tinting fluids are added to the stain or varnish to give the wood a noble shade. Using color matching, you can create an imitation of valuable wood species.
- coloring;
The external cladding of the facades is painted with enamels. Painted boards create a beautiful interior for dining rooms, kitchens, hallways.
- brushing.
Particular attention is paid to such "Calm" processing as brushing. The process technology is that the front surface of the panels is cleaned with metal brushes. This is done manually or with a power tool.
Soft wood fibers are removed, leaving a firmer wood structure. The result is a relief that mimics the aging of a tree. Brushed panels are additionally treated with stain, varnish or tinting.
VS dimensions
The dimensions of the "Calm" facing panels are indicated by the manufacturer in the accompanying documentation. These are the following options:
- length;
- width;
- thickness;
- width, groove depth;
- width, thickness of the spike.
Length
Woodworking enterprises, focusing on demand, produce lining of various lengths. The maximum length is 6 m. For the convenience of installing wooden cladding, manufacturers offer panels of 2, 3 and 4 meters.
Width
The transverse size of the lining may be different. It depends on demand, raw materials, destination and price. On the forest market, mainly Calm lining with a width of 90 to 170 mm is found. For the decoration of the external surfaces of walls, sometimes a VS is used with a width of up to 200 mm.
Thickness
The thickness of the cladding panel for interior use is from 13 mm to 16 mm. For the decoration of facades, profile boards with a thickness of 16 mm to 21 mm are used. There may be other indicators, depending on the manufacturer.
Groove Width and Depth
The mounting longitudinal opening at the VSH can be from 4 to 6 mm wide. The groove depth is usually made no more than 15 mm.
Spike Width and Thickness
The width of the protrusion of the board corresponds to the depth of the groove or may be more than 1 mm. The spike thickness is 0.2–0.5 mm thinner than the groove. This is done for convenient installation of kleimers.
Advantages, disadvantages of "Calm"
Among the advantages, the following are noted:
- finishing of VS fences has aesthetic appeal;
- the lack of a relief surface gives the impression of a solid cladding area;
- ease of installation of panels;
- environmental friendliness of the material;
- high strength products.
The disadvantages of the profile include the high cost. Panels made of spruce and pine are not used for outdoor applications. In direct sunlight, the wood begins to exude resin, which leads to cracks and a violation of the geometry of the panels. At low air temperatures, the negative effects are exacerbated, which sometimes leads to a complete loss of the functionality of the lining.
Installation of VSh
Lining is installed vertically or horizontally. Both installation options are used for internal work. When cladding facades, the profile is set horizontally. Before finishing the fencing with a clapboard for wooden panels, a support base is prepared.
A lath of timber is fixed to the walls and ceiling. For this, lumber with a cross section of 30x30 mm, 30x40 mm and 40x40 mm is used. A larger cross-section of the rails is used for significant amounts of work on the same plane. The beam is connected by mounting metal corners. Corners are fixed to the walls and ceiling with dowels, to the timber - with screws.
The joints of the cladding to the floor and ceiling are covered with plastic or wooden skirting boards. For vertical external and internal corners, polymer profiles are used for plastic panels.
Three ways to mount the VS
Nails or screws
Fasten the lower shelf of the groove. Small cloves are hammered at an angle with a hammer with an extension in the lower shelf of the groove. Screws are screwed into the drill head. Installation of horizontal panels is from top to bottom. This method requires the employee skills and dexterity.
Pneumatic stapler
The tool is optional; you can rent it. The stapler allows you to quickly “shoot” the lining to the crate. This method is suitable only for cladding fences inside the house. Horizontal installation is also made from top to bottom. The vertical "Calm" installation starts from the corners.
Installation of VSh on Kleimers
The most progressive method of mounting the VS is to fasten the panels with a clamp. The mounting part is a bracket having a shelf with holes and a curved gear platform (tooth).
Installation begins with the bottom row of the lining groove up. It is attached directly to the timber with screws. Then the kleimers immerse the serrated ends in the groove. The fasteners are nailed with studs, screwed with screws or shoot with a stapler to the crate.
The next row is inserted with spikes into the grooves of the lower panels. The upper lining is punched with a rubber hammer until the protrusions enter the grooves tightly. Then the process is repeated until the final lining.
