For high-quality disinfection of the premises, wet cleaning is not enough. To kill all germs, you need an air purifier from viruses and bacteria. Hospitals use quartz lamps. But there are many other effective devices and means: ozonizers, ionizers, moisturizers and sprays for air purification.
Why is an air disinfectant needed?
Just as we disinfect hands, floors and furniture, you can clean the air. The surrounding area is teeming with bacteria and viruses. Many of them are not dangerous. But a small percentage can cause serious illness.
Viruses and bacteria for a long time live on surfaces contaminated with human secretions: saliva, blood and others. Slightly less germs in the dust. If the air in the room is motionless, dusty, the risk of contracting an infection is seriously increased.
Indications for air disinfection at home:
- one of the family members has an infectious infection;
- the presence of small children;
- the presence in the family of people with severe chronic diseases;
- big family;
- frequent receptions of guests;
- epidemics.
All of these factors pose an increased risk of infectious diseases. Children and the elderly are especially affected.
Air disinfection combined with surface treatment minimizes the risk of SARS, influenza, coronavirus and other diseases.
Devices for air purification from viruses and bacteria
Clean air is the same guarantee of health as wholesome food. Various devices help to improve its quality. All of them have different working principles. Some purify the air by taking it and passing it through a filter system. Others literally disinfect the space in the room through exposure to certain substances or rays (for example, ozone or ultraviolet light).
Humidifier
The main purpose of the device is to saturate the air with moisture.
The humidifier does not kill viruses and bacteria in the literal sense of the word, but prevents their reproduction. It has been experimentally proved that at a humidity of 80% and a temperature of 20 degrees, the influenza virus ceases to spread.
This partly explains why outbreaks of SARS and influenza occur in autumn and winter. At this time, the rooms begin to heat up, and the air becomes much drier. Humidity often drops below 15%, while the recommended minimum is 30%.
Of course, to achieve a humidity level of 80% in reality is almost impossible. For this, the device would need to vaporize approximately 1 liter of liquid per hour. And to be in such a humidified room is difficult.
Maintaining a humidity level of 45-60% in a room is enough to reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses.
In addition, the humidifier binds dust and dirt. And advanced devices such as air washes not only moisturize, but also purify the air by filtration. After the fence, it passes through a filter system, moistens, and is already cleaned out.
Ozonizer
Ozone is a gas with the properties of a powerful oxidizing agent. It kills viruses, fungi and bacteria in a very short time. In nature, ozone is produced from lightning. Gas is generated in the ozonizer due to electric discharges.
Ozone can saturate not only air but also water. It is used to clean pools, nurseries and storage rooms, for sterilizing medical instruments.
It is believed that in small doses, gas helps to cure many diseases. However, the effectiveness of ozone therapy has not been proven. But the disinfecting effect of ozone - yes.
Ozonizers are not inferior in effectiveness to chlorine-containing solutions and destroy 99.9% of microorganisms. Complete disinfection is observed at a gas concentration of 0.4-0.5 mg / m3. When using a professional ozonizer, the effect is achieved in 2 minutes, household - in about half an hour. After this, the room must be ventilated for 1.5–2 hours.
In high concentrations, ozone is dangerous to humans. With its excess, there is a burning sensation in the lungs, dizziness, cough, shortness of breath, nausea.
Ionizer
Ionizers are often confused with ozonizers. However, these devices are fundamentally different. The ionizer releases charged particles. The discharge causes the electrons to scatter to the sides, after which they are captured by oxygen molecules.
The ionizer does not have a bactericidal effect, but it effectively cleans the air, as well as liquids and gas, from solid particles: allergens, dust, toxins.
True, all the dirt settles on the walls, floor and furniture. Air ionization provokes a precipitation reaction. To get rid of viruses and bacteria, after ionization it is necessary to clean solid surfaces with a disinfectant solution.
Spray for air from viruses
Air can be cleaned with an aerosol for disinfection. In Russia, drugs are popular:
- Aeron (370 rubles per 250 ml);
- "Probioneat Stop virus" (270 rubles for 550 ml);
- Bacterokos (550 rubles per 405 ml).
The disinfecting spray destroys bacteria, fungi and viruses (causing SARS, ARI, H5N1, H1N1 flu, SARS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, herpes, rotavirus, enterovirus, adenovirus and other infections).
To clean the air, an aerosol is sprayed up above the head. 2-6 clicks are enough for a space within a radius of 1 m3 cleared up. On average, 50 ml is enough to process the room 37.5 m3.
Personal disinfectant can be used at home, in the office, in the car, in a public place. They clean not only air, but also surfaces.
Which device is best for an apartment?
It all depends on the goals and budget. In most cases, it does not make sense to buy a professional disinfectant for a home: it’s both expensive and there are not many microbes to overpay. A purifier with a filtration system is sufficient for domestic needs. It effectively removes dust, toxins and allergens from the air. In proportion to this, the concentration of microbes and viruses decreases. And modern cleaners can have additional functions in the form of ozonation, moisturizing and ionization.
What brand of cleaners are popular?
Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier Pro devices, Shivaki SHAP-5010B. Ionization cleaners: Yamaguchi Oxygen and Tefal PU4025. Devices with ionization and UV lamp: Timberk TAP FL600 MF, AIC CF8005. Air washers: Sharp KC-D51RW, Panasonic F-VK655, Winia AWX-70. Humidifier cleaner: Polaris PAW 2202Di / PAW 2203Di.
Bacteria and viruses are not scary in the open. In moving air, they quickly die. However, indoors, microbes can multiply at a catastrophic rate. Especially if there is a patient in the room who sneezes and coughs. Various air purifiers are designed to minimize the risk of infection. To do this, use the devices correctly, disinfect surfaces, periodically ventilate the rooms. Then health will be in order, and many diseases can be forgotten!
