Dryers are useful devices, but not very popular so far. What is the reason for this? Most likely, with a lack of understanding of people of their main purpose and principle of work. Tumble dryer: what is the “miracle” of technology? The simple answer is a device that can replace you with clothesline for drying clothes, folding dryers and more.
Such an aggregate will be especially useful for large families, when a large number of washed items simply have nowhere to dry at the same time. How is the technique arranged and how does it work? We will talk about this below.
Variety of drying devices
Proper care of clothing involves not only ensuring its effective washing, but also proper drying. This can be achieved by maximizing the spin, by steaming or through hot air currents. Modern electric dryers allow you to use all these methods, sometimes even in combination.
There are three types of dryers:
- automatic machine with dryer;
- drum dryer;
- drying cabinet (happens with one camera or several).
All three types of devices differ in design and principle of operation.
A tumble dryer is chosen by most consumers. It will be discussed further.
Types of electric drum dryers
To find out what drum electric dryers are, you need to understand another point: where does the moisture from clothes go? There are two options. The first involves the release of moist air outside, the second - its accumulation in a special container.
Based on this, drum electric dryers on the principle of moisture removal are divided into:
- ventilation;
- condensation;
- with heat pump (advanced condensing type).
To find out how these cars differ, we will consider each view separately.
Ventilation
Moisture dryer models are considered obsolete. Although their design, in comparison with the other two types, is simpler.
The principle of operation is that moisture from the device exits through a special hose into the ventilation passages. Therefore, the installation of such equipment needs additional installation work. This point reduces the popularity of ventilation dryers among consumers.
Condensation
Condensing machines are more practical. They do not require a special installation location, since moisture accumulates during drying in a special container. This container must be periodically emptied of water in order for the device to work properly.
Heat Pump Dryers
The design of this type of drying device has a cooling circuit. It provides intensive cooling of air flows, thereby accelerating the process of condensation. As a result, the drying cycle is reduced and the clothes dry out in a shorter time.
Read about how the electric dryer is arranged and how it works.
Dryer design
Drying drums for clothes have a fairly simple design. We will tell you what most condensation dryers look like.
- Control Panel. It has an electronic display, a program selection selector, depending on the type of clothing, buttons for additional functions.
- A drive belt connecting the motor to the tank.
- Dryer drum. This is the main element of the dryer, in which the process of drying things.
Most electric dryers have a tank light. This helps to track the condition of the laundry, and also facilitates its loading and unloading.
- Electric motor
- Heat exchanger. In it, cold and hot air currents move along two channels at once. However, they do not mix with each other.This is how the air cools and further condensation forms.
- Heating Element (TEN). He heats the air before the latter enters directly into the drum with clothes.
- Fan. It helps to capture cold air and sets its correct direction.
- Tank for condensate collection. It can be located at the bottom of the front panel or where the powder receiver is located in the washers. From it, you need to periodically drain the water, so that there is much to do with the new condensate.
If the model provides for connection to a drainage system, the condensate will drain directly into the sewer.
- Air intakes with pile filters. They collect dust, debris from the air stream. Filters should be cleaned at least once a month.
The principle of operation of the device
The electric dryer in operation resembles an automatic machine. The main element is a rotating drum. But unlike a washing machine, it’s not water that enters the drum, but warm air that dries things. In this case, the rotation of the drum does not exceed 100 revolutions in one minute.
Before getting into the tank with linen, the air masses pass through the nap filters. Then the fan directs them to the heating element. The air is heated by the heater to a temperature of 50–70 degrees, and only then, with the help of an additional fan, it moves into the drum.
Having taken moisture from wet clothes, air falls to the heat exchanger. There, he gets rid of excess moisture and cools down, after which he again goes to the heating element. Thus, a continuous circular circulation of air flows and drying of wet things is ensured.
The maximum drying power consumption per cycle is 4 kW. But in most dryers it is 1500–2300 watts.
Dryer Operation
Using clothes drying machines is not a big deal. To know how to use them, check out the summary below.
- Loading linen. Its quantity should not exceed the capacity of the equipment.
Clothes must first be wrung out in a washing machine or manually.
- The choice of the program depending on the material of clothes.
Conventionally, programs are also divided into drying by time and by the residual level of humidity of things.
- The end of the cycle. The dried laundry, taking into account the degree of its humidity, is sent to the closet or ironed.
- Removing pile from pile filters. The procedure is mandatory and cannot be ignored. Because dust clogged filters will not be able to pass air properly. As a result, the equipment will not dry things well.
- Disposal of condensation. After the end of each cycle, you need to remove the condensate tank and pour out the collected moisture.
The next drying cycle can only begin after a 40-minute break.
Now you know how tumble dryers work and why they are needed. And as it turned out, using them, in some moments, is even easier than washing devices.
There is no doubt about the practicality and usefulness of dryers. After all, household appliances that facilitate the housewife’s homework simply cannot be useless.
